Abstract
636,336. Load-handling machines. FAURE, S. March 13, 1947, Nos. 7043 and 7044. Convention dates, Sept. 5, 1945 and May 31, 1946. [Classes 78 (ii) and 78 (iii)] In hauling and hoisting gear operated by means of a metal cable, of the type including two movable blocks 6, 7 adapted to move simultaneously in opposite directions over the cable 4 for gripping it in their jaws and releasing it in turns under the action of a lever control providing for the progressive rising of the load and pivotally connected with each block so as to provide in alternation for the opening of either jaw when the block is moved in a predetermined direction, a progressive downward movement of the load is produced by a second lever controlling in opposite directions the blocks 6 and 7 through at least one further link 23 or 24 actuating directly the jaw-controlling levers pivotally carried by the blocks in order to open either jaw while the corresponding block moves in a direction opposite to the first predetermined direction. The downward movement is controlled by a lever inserted in a socket 19 which is coupled by gudgeons 21, 22 to connecting rods 23, 24 actuating the jaws in the blocks 6, 7 respectively through levers 34, 35. Two springs 25 are housed in tubes 26 secured to parts 27 connected together by a pin 28 which is free to move in slots 29. The springs transmit their opposing force in the direction of the arrow 31 to pivots 32, 33 which connect the connecting rods 23, 24 respectively with the levers 34, 35 controlling the jaws in the blocks 6 and 7 so that when inoperative the springs urge the jaws into their cable braking position. To lower the load the socket 19 is actuated in alternating directions around its pivot 28 so as to move the connecting rods 23, 24. On actuating the socket 19 in the direction of the arrow 38 the jaws in the block 6 are disengaged and release the cable 4 along which the block 6 sinks whilst the jaws in the block 7 grip the cable. On actuating the socket 19 in the opposite direction the jaws in the block 7 open and the block 7 sinks whilst the block 6 remains clamped to the cable. To keep both jaws open simultaneously for
