Abstract
636,050. Electrodeposition of metals and alloys. UDYLITE CORPORATION. June 24, 1947, No. 16595. Convention date, May 15, 1941. [Class 41] A process of electrodepositing metals or alloys includes electrolyzing an aqueous acid solution of (a) a salt of copper or antimony, or (b) a salt of nickel, cobalt, iron, zinc, cadmium, or mixtures thereof, with or without the addition of a salt of a further metal other than copper or antimony, the solution also containing a minor proportion of a soluble aliphatic alkyl ether sulphonate containing an alkyl radical having a chain of from 6 to 18 (preferably 12) carbon atoms. The amount of sulphonate is preferably from .1 to .3 grams per litre. Certain of the sulphonates are derivatives of glycerine, glycols, polyglycols, polyglycerols, carbohydrates and sugars, and sugar alcohols. The sulphonates are preferably used in the form of the sodium, potassium, or ammonium salts or as the salts of the metal being deposited from the bath. Specification 525,847 is referred to.
