Abstract

636,058. Condensation pumps. CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE. Aug. 12, 1947, No. 22448. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1941. [Class 71] In a condensation pump of the kind having in its interior a collector 2 with a deflector 10 which becomes warm during operation, the upper surface of the cap facing the space to be evacuated is completely covered by a cap 19 adapted to be cooled and of shape conforming to that of the deflector 10 and spaced therefrom by means e.g., fins 20 secured to the pump casing wall 1. The fins 20 also serve to cool the cap 19 by virtue of walls 1 being water-cooled and thus condense and prevent back flow of oil vapour. Any uncondensed vapour is stopped by one or more plates 22 and discs 23. A liquid air or carbon dioxide snow-cooled container 25 traps reverse flowing oil carbonization vapours generated in the pump boiler 4 at unduly high temperatures.
