Abstract
635,563. Liquid fuel burners. NAGEL, T. Nov. 28, 1946, No. 35306. [Class 75 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] in atomizing a liquid especially liquid fuel by e.g. air or steam, an atomizer 6, Fig. 4, held within a casing 2, is formed with liquid feed grooves 14 in its upper part 10 which is spaced by a neck (forming an annular first mixing chamber 12) from a lower part 8 provided with tangential slots 18 to receive both steam and liquid at its periphery and to direct the mixture to a whirl chamber 16 where the mixture of steam and fuel is whirled for passing through the outlet 20. The liquid fuel passes through the centre of a part 4 inside the casing 2, the steam passing down the annular space between 4 and 2. The steam is at low pressure (3 to 20 lbs. per sq. in.) so that when the oil is cut off the steam is still allowed to flow to clean and cool the nozzle. The liquid fuel is at a pressure from 0.75 to 300 lbs. per square inch, the pressures being adjusted as required to give the best mixture.
