Abstract

622,132. Thermal switches, NIEBOER, H. A. Oct. 24, 1946, No. 31568. [Class 38(v)] An electric iron is provided with a thermostat consisting of a bi-metal strip 33 which acts upon a movable blade 27 carrying a contact 30 which normally engages a contact on a bent blade 26. The heating element is enclosed between the sole plate 10 and a clamping plate 11 which is recessed at 9 and formed with heatradiating fins 24 below the strip 33. The heat is controlled by a rotatable transparent ring 20 formed with a cam surface 22 engaging the blade 26. A spring 35 causes sufficient friction between the ring and cover 15 to retain the ring in any set position and the transparent ring enables the light from a pilot lamp 18 to be seen through an opening in the cover 15 above the lamp.
