Abstract

620,806. Machines for rolling rubber. PLANTERS ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and WAKEFORD, L. T. Jan. 24, 1947, No. 2349. [Class 87 (ii)] Sheet rubber is produced from coagulum fed from a table 38 between a large roller 15 and small rollers 22 around its periphery. The invention resides in the arrangement whereby the centres of the small rollers all lie on an arc which subtends an angle of less than 90 degrees at the centre of the large roller and radial lines passing through the first and last small rollers lie at angles of not more than 45 degrees to the vertical. The rollers 22 are mounted in bearings slidably adjustable in slots radial to the axis of the large roller by screws 31 and springs 28. The small rollers each carry a pinion meshing with a pinion carried by the large roller and arranged to give the same or a different peripheral speed. A modification is shown in which the large roller carries a composite pinion having parts of different diameter each part geared to a different small roller or rollers so that the latter rotate at different speeds.
