629,400. Medical chairs. RITTER CO., Inc. Dec. 31, 1946, No. 15483/48. Convention date, July 2, 1946. Divided out of 629,345. [Class 52 (ii)] A chair for use in medical practice is provided with. a head rest comprising a pair of members 217 each having a cupped head pad 219 and a flat head supporting surface 221 either pad or flat surface being brought into operative position and means being provided whereby the head rest is locked when the flat surface is in operative position. The head rest comprises a shank 206 universally connected by a member 205 to the slidable member 61 and clampable by lever 208. The shank 206 forms part of an outer yoke 207 the outer ends of which are provided with studs 209 forming trunnions for an inner yoke 213. The head rest members 217 are provided with fixed trunnions 215 on arms 216 the trunnions 215 projecting into the inner yoke ends and about which the inner yoke may be rotated. The ends of the trunnions 214 are provided with eccentrics 218 which project into the reduced portions of the studs 209. When the cupped pads 219 are in head supporting positions the eccentrics force the yokes apart so that they are free to rotate relatively to one another but when the flat supporting surfaces are brought to operative positions the eccentrics bear on the head 212 of the stud 209 and press the yokes together so that, together with the head supporting surfaces, they are locked. When in unclamped position the inner yoke 213 may be rotated relatively to the outer yoke to bring the head supporting portions into any desired facing direction.
