Abstract

628,238. Pipe joints. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. Sept. 25, 1947, No. 26077. Convention date, Dec. 26, 1946. [Class 99(i)] A joint permitting longitudinal, lateral and misalignment changes consists of a bellows element 20 joining pipes 10 and 11 and enclosing a liner 21 which is of smaller diameter than the pipes and is fixed to the end of pipe 10. A ring 23 is placed over the free end of the liner and projects into a pocket 24 in the pipe 11. Steam from an inlet 25 passes through a clearance in, and around, the ring 23 to the pipe 11 and prevents clogging of the joint. In a modification, Fig. 2, the liner 21 may be outside the bellows 20 and the whole enclosed by a casing 27.
