Abstract
<PICT:0627838/III/1> In a method for the continuous separation of dirt particles and grease and/or oil from contaminated solvents or volatile liquids the solvent is volatilized by heating and the vapour subjected to centrifugal action in a cyclone separator to remove the contaminants. The solvent, e.g. trichlorethylene from a dry-cleaning process containing grease and dust, is forced through heat-exchanger b, by pump a, and is volatilized in evaporator c, the vapour with the contaminants in suspension then passing to cyclone separator e where liquid and solid contaminants collect in the bottom and vapour passes out at e1. The vapour flows through heat-exchanger b and is condensed in condenser h. Preferably the cyclone separator has a steam jacket f to volatilize residual solvent from the contaminants, and it may also be provided at its upper end with an activated carbon filter.
