[Classes 8(i) and 102(ii)] Apparatus for dispensing measured quantities of liquid comprises a cylinder 2, Fig. 1, communicating by a passage 18 with a chamber 12, having an outlet conduit 25 leading to a liquid container 28 which is connected by a pipe 38 to a filler head 29 to which a charging bottle B is secured. Upon the downward stroke of a piston 4 air is drawn into the cylinder 2 from the chamber 12 through the passage 18 and from the bottle B through an annular space 33, between a tube 30 and a sleeve 31, through an aperture 35 in the sleeve, past a lift valve 9 and further as indicated by the arrows a. Liquid from the container 28 then flows past an inlet valve 40 through the pipe 38 and the tube 30 into the bottle B. On the upward stroke of the piston 4 the valves 9 and 4 close and the air expelled from the cylinder into the chamber 12 opens the valve 24 and escapes, with any liquid present in the chamber 12, through the conduit 25 to the container 28. Fig. 3 shows a supporting structure 41 having a pivotal support 42 for a treadle plate 43 worked by the operator's foot, for actuating the piston rod 5 by means of a connecting rod 44 secured by a hinged joint 45 to the plate 43. The treadle plate 43, the downward movement of which is limited by an adjustable stop 49 is urged downward at its near end by a spring 47. The bottle is supported on a platform 53 which is depressed by a rod 58 when the lug 59 engages the stop 60 thereby allowing the bottle to be removed from its filling position and an empty bottle to be substituted.
