Abstract
626,864. Plate heat exchangers. WORSSAM & SON, Ltd., G. J., and FOX, D. P. S. July 30, 1946, No. 22694. [Class 64(iii)] In a plate heat-exchanger, e.g. for condensing steam or vapour, a frame for spacing plates comprises a plurality of strips occupying an open frame in which they are supported in spaced relationship by rods or bars extending transversely of the strips, the strips being adapted for permitting flow in the frame transversely of the strips as well as in the direction thereof. As shown in Fig. 1, the steam frame 24 comprises an open frame occupied by flat metal strips 35, 36 soldered to or spaced by collars on rods 37. Steam inlet and outlet spaces 27 communicate with the effective heat-exchange space by bores 28 in partition bars 29. The bars 29 and bars 31 partition off through passages 30 for water, from the heat-exchanger space. Compressed rubber packing 32, 34 is provided. The strips 36, extending to the top or bottom bar 29, equalise the flow between the spaces 27. The water frame is very similar in construction. The spacing frames are arranged alternately with thin copper plates 26.
