[Class 68 (i)] [Also in Group I] A machine for excavating drainage channels and spreading the excavated earth on the land comprises an endless track vehicle A which carries a pivotally mounted excavator and a transversely disposed centrifugal spreader. The excavator consists of two worm sections C<SP>1</SP> of right and left-hand thread, each section C<SP>1</SP> having one or more threads and carrying cutters D<SP>1</SP>. The worm sections decrease in diameter outwardly whilst between them is an endless chain conveyor G<SP>1</SP> which cuts out the centre portion of the channel and also removes the earth excavated and deposited there by the worm sections. The excavator is encased at the rear to prevent earth falling back into the channel. The soil is discharged from the endless conveyor on to a screw conveyor which deposits it into an inner chamber of the spreader which consists of two circular plates having inturned edges and spaced apart by blades H<SP>11</SP>, the inturned edges forming a bearing surface for an endless belt K<SP>11</SP> which seals the peripheral opening of the spreader except for a portion at which it is desired that earth should be discharged. For travelling from site to site the excavator can be raised clear of the ground whilst the centrifugal spreader, which is mounted at the instantaneous centre of rotation of the vehicle, can be replaced by a shoot.
