Abstract

611,899. Bicycle saddles. SCOULAR, L. G. May 13, 1946, No. 14426. [Class 136 (iii)] In a saddle of the kind which comprises two supports arranged side by side, each adapted to fit below the ischial tuberosity, and a pivotal mounting under the supports which allows them to tilt independently under spring control about an axis extending transversely from side to side of the saddle, each support 1 is curved concavely and its underside is recessed to receive a tubular bearing 3 on which the support is mounted for tilting movement so as to bring the tilting axis close to the top surface of the support. Each bearing 3 is slidably mounted on a tube 4 and is secured in any position by a pair of collars 5 and set-screws 6. Helical tension springs 7, Fig. 4, connect the screws 6 to brackets 8 on the supports. The tube 4 is secured in a horizontal bore in a T- shaped bracket 9 by a bolt 11, and the bracket is clamped to the saddle pillar 10 by a bolt 12. The saddle pillar may be spring supported and slidably mounted in the rear upright tube. It may be provided with a keyway or be made non-circular to prevent rotation. The supports 1 are faced with sponge rubber 2 or other resilient material. In a modification, the collars 5 are replaced by spring clips.
