[Class 44] Door securing and releasing mechanism comprises a latch bar 15 extending across the door, hinging with the latter and having limited movement in planes normal and parallel to the door, and means on the door operating to swing the bar away from the latter and into locking engagement with a catch mounted at one side of the door opening, and further means adapted on retraction of the first means to swing the bar towards the door and out of engagement with the catch. The operating. means comprises handles 17, 18 mounted on a shaft 16 passing through the door, and cams 24 and 26. The handle 18 is formed with a bush 21 having at its outer end a plate 23 which limits the movement of the bar away from the door. The cam 24 is also mounted on the bush 21, and bears on the round heads of screws or rivets 25. The handle 18 is formed with a cam surface 26 bearing on the outer side of the bar 15. The end of the latter engages in a catch 27, Fig. 4, to secure the door. In closing, the action of the cam 24 on the bar 15 forces the door on to its seating, which may include sealing strips 13. On operation of the handle to release, the cam surface 26 first engages the bar and moves it towards the door, releasing it from the catch 27, and on further rotation a pin 28 on the cam 24 lifts the bar clear of the catch 27, allowing the door to be opened. Hasp fasteners 29 are preferably provided to retain the handles in locking position.
