Abstract

611,708. Agglutinated fibrous materials. STEVENS, A. H. (Columbian Rope Co.). March 17, 1944, No. 5007. [Class 140] [Also in Group V] Mouldable blanks made of sheets of fibres, e.g. sisal or jute, impregnated with binder, which may be thermosetting or thermoplastic resin, are made by feeding the fibres B, Fig. 10 through a carding machine A, under a needling machine C and past a cutting-out device D, and then immersing the cut-out blanks 10 in a tank 18 of binder solution. Instead of applying the binder in solution it may be dusted on the blank 10a, Fig. 12, by perforated box 41 vibrated by eccentrics 43, the blank being then heated, on conveyer 40, in an oven similar to the casing 44, this heating causing the resin to adhere to the blank. The blanks are then moulded into hollow articles (see Group V).
