Abstract
611,658. Magazine gramophones. INDUSTRIAKTIEBOLAGET LUXOR, and WENNERBO, E. May 3, 1946, No. 13466. [Class 40 (ii)] In a magazine gramophone in which records are lowered one by one on the top of each other on the turntable, or are removed from the turntable one by one, the stylus of the pick-up is automatically maintained at a constant angular relation to the uppermost record by making the tone-arm support movable in a vertical direction and associating it with a ratchet which permits free upward movement during a record-changing operation, but locks the support against further downward movement as soon as the stylus comes into contact with the uppermost record. In the embodiment described with reference to Fig. 1, the tone-arm is supported by a toothed rod 10, which is rotatable with a bearing 9 within which it is free to move in a vertical direction under the control of mechanism, not shown, during a record-changing operation. As the rod 10 is raised, the stylus 5 remains in contact with the uppermost record until the depending rod 20 comes into contact with a pin 25, and until the lower end of rod 20 has moved the plate 15 to the right so that the surface 16 rests against the rod 10. During further upward movement of the rod 10, the tone-arm is lifted bodily so that the stylus 5 leaves the record. After the placing or removal of a record, the rod 10 is lowered, during which operation the stylus 5 again comes into contact with the surface of the record, the tone arm is moved clockwise about the supporting pin 11, and the plate 15 under control of the depending rod 20 is moved so that the sharp edge 17 of the plate 15 is moved to engage one of the teeth on the rod 10, which is thereby prevented from being lowered further. Figs. 3 to 8 inclusive (not shown) illustrate another embodiment in which both the support rod and control member pass through the support bearing, and a spring is provided between the tone-arm and the support member to relieve stylus pressure,
