Abstract
In the production of artificial cellulosic yarns, threads, filaments and foils of low-swelling characteristics according to the methods described in Specifications 601,695 and 601,696, [Group IV (b)], wherein the yarns and like materials contain monomeric trimethylolphenol or trimethylolphenol in a slightly condensed condition and are subsequently subjected to a thermal treatment, the thermal treatment is effected with dry saturated steam under pressure, preferably in the absence of oxygen. In examples (1) viscose containing slightly condensed trimethylolphenol is spun into filaments which are stretched, washed, desulphurized, cut into staple fibres, dried and baled. The bales are then subjected in an autoclave to dry saturated steam at 120 DEG C. and in the absence of oxygen; (2) regenerated cellulose staple fibre is immersed in a bath of trimethylolphenol, removed, dried and subjected to the thermal treatment of example 1.
