Abstract

619,007. Spray carburetters. SOC. ANON. SOLEX. Nov. 19, 1946, No. 34254. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1940. [Class 7 (iii)] In a carburetter comprising in addition to the usual nozzle or nozzles an auxiliary nozzle for delivering fuel to an engine induction pipe for enriching the combustible mixture supplied to an engine, when necessary and for instance at high loads, the auxiliary nozzle being fed with fuel through two passages in parallel are controlled by a valve and the other permanently open and fitted with a calibrated orifice, the valve is controlled through mechanical means operatively connected with the throttle means located in the induction pipe and is automatically actuated by the said mechanical means throughout at least a portion of the range of operative movement of the throttle means as the latter is operated. A main spraying well 3 is in communication with a venturi through a main jet opening 4 formed near its top end. In addition, a tube 5, partially immersed in the spraying well 3, is provided with a calibrated orifice 6 for receiving emulsion air. The fuel supplied to the spraying well 3 flows through another calibrated orifice 8. An auxiliary nozzle 16 is fed with fuel through a pipe 9 incorporating a non-return valve 10, which branches off from a main supply line 7. The fuel pipe 9 opens into a chamber 11 from which two separate passages 12, 14 lead off, the former passage embodying a valve 13 and the latter passage being permanently open but containing a calibrated orifice, to supply the auxiliary nozzle 16 through a chamber 21, a further calibrated orifice 22 and a pipe 15. The chamber 11 contains a membrane type accelerating pump 23, the membrane of which, together with the valve 13, is conjointly operated through a lost-motion link system, with the throttle valve 2. In a modification, the accelerating pump may be dispensed with. Specification 531,778 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection. under Sect. 91 comprises also a further modification in which the auxiliary nozzle feed pipe 15 opens into the spray well feed pipe 7 at some point downstream of the calibrated orifice 8 or into the feed pipe of the idling nozzle (not shown). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
