Abstract
616,475. Venting casks. HAMER, A. Sept. 5, 1946, No. 26732. [Class 21] A closure device for barrels comprises a bush A and a bung D carrying an adjustable member K having grooves K2 for the admission of air. The bush A is threaded to screw into the barrel and has internal helical grooves F which are engaged by projections E on the bung. A rubber ring G carried in a groove in the bung D forms a seal when the bung is screwed home. The bung has a recessed and threaded bore to accommodate the member K which may be screwed down against a rubber washer K<4> to seal the barrel or may be unscrewed to expose the axial grooves K<2>. In an alternative form the bung may be threaded to hold the correspondingly threaded ring G. A projection H on the bung is shaped to be engaged by a spanner. Specification 446,020 is referred to.
