Abstract

615,808. Variable-speed gearing. TRIGGS, W. W. (Yale & Towne Manufacturing Co.). Aug. 9, 1946, No. 23642. [Class 80 (ii)] In a transmission arrangement comprising motor 13, hydraulic drive 20, clutch C and gearbox G, the transmission shaft 31 has the driven member 22 of the clutch splined thereto, and is rotatably mounted at one end in the driving clutch member 21 and at the other end in a ball bearing 40 mounted in the forward wall of the gear casing. A nut 41 threaded at 42 on the shaft 31 secures the shaft relative to the bearing 40, and a pinion 32 on the end of the shaft 31 meshes the gears in the casing G. A clutch throw-out collar 25 which actuates levers 24 is moved axially by a lever 27 and is slidingly mounted on a sleeve 43 secured by bolts 44 to the gear casing and by bolts 45 to the coverplate 33. Removal of the shaft 31 for servicing the clutch or other parts is effected by removing cover-plate 33 and bolts 44, 45, and unscrewing nut 41, whereby the shaft 31 may be slid to the right, thus disconnecting the splines 30 from clutch disc 22.
