Abstract
603,977. Balancing weight of guns. AKTIEBOLAGET BOFORS. Nov. 19, 1945, No. 31077. Convention date, Nov. 9, 1939. [Class 92 (i)] One or more members of the spring system for balancing a gun is so connected to the recoiling system of the gun barrel that the turning movement of the system decreases during recoil and increases during run-out, so that balance is effected in all positions. As shown, the gun is balanced by a spring 33 in a fixed cylinder 30 whose piston 34 is connected by a rope 36 to a cross-piece 38 which is movably mounted in a groove 39 of a lever 40 connected to the elevation system of the gun barrel. In firing, a rack 41 fixed to the recoiling system drives a gear-wheel 42 which, through bevel gearing, rotates a shaft 45 threaded in the crosspiece 38. By this means the cross-piece moves towards the gun trunnion 32 thus reducing the leverage of the spring 33, and at the same time, by reason of the disposition of the groove, the tension of the spring is also reduced. In modifications, 'Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the piston 34 of a pivotally-mounted cylinder is connected by a rod to the lever 40, the end of the rod sliding in a groove of lever 40 in one construction, and the pivot pin of the cylinder sliding in a groove of the mounting in the other construction. In another modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the cylinder is fixed and is vertical and the rope 36 extends over a pulley and down to a member which recoils.
