Abstract
603,905. Making dynamo &c. commutators. HOOVER, Ltd., and LEIB, F. J. H. Nov. 5, 1945, No. 29306. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] Commutators are made by broaching, milling, roll ing or extruding a strip A to form a series of parallel tongues A<SP>1</SP> with interven. ing slots with wide outer parts A<SP>2</SP> and narrow taper ing inner parts A<SP>3</SP>. The strip is bent to circular form and the tongues are bent by means engaging opposite sides to the joggled form shown in Fig. 3, after which they are embedded in plastic material together with a metal bush for the shaft if desired. The commutator is completed by turning away the outer circumference to form the individual segments. Instead of joggling, the tongues may have a central groove to facilitate bending in opposite directions. Specifications 541,557, [Group XXXV], and 584,867 are referred to.
