Abstract
In the removal of inorganic compounds of sulphur, phosphorus and/or arsenic from gases inactive to chlorine under the operating conditions, e.g. nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide or mixtures, by oxidation with aqueous hypochlorous acid, the acid is renewed by injecting chlorine as well as the gas into the aqueous solution in the presence of an alkaline earth or magnesium carbonate. The chlorine may be admixed with the gas.
