[Class 100(i)] A sheet-feeding device of the kind in which the sheets are registered by front stops 3 and by movable registering devices operated by a reciprocating rod 17 which is actuated by an oscillating bell-crank lever 13 adapted to register the sheet against either of two side guides 9, is constructed with means to ensure accurate register consisting of a friction device preferably in the form of a brush 37 which engages the sheet and moves at an angle to the advance of the sheet so as to ensure accurate engagement with both the front and side guides. The invention is described in connection with a machine of the kind described in Specification 601,373 in which reciprocating suction grippers 7, 8 moving in opposite directions co-operate to feed the sheets to the front stops 3. The machine is shown as set for registering against the lower side guide 9, and the brush 37 is mounted in a J-shaped bracket 32 arranged nearer the upper guide 9. The brush is mounted in a pivoted bracket 36, capable of movement about two axes at right angles to one another. The movement about a horizontal axis 35 is controlled by an adjustable coiled spring which is set in accordance with the thickness of the sheets, and movement about a vertical pivot 33 is controlled by a slotted arm 46 adjustably connected to the rod 17 which arm is moved counterclockwise from the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4 to the position shown in full lines as the sheet reaches the front stops, and so is moved substantially towards both guides and thus ensures accurate register. As the feed table 5 is inclined to the horizon the pivotal movements about the horizontal axes are controlled by cam surfaces 48 at the extremities of the arm 46, and at the end of the diagonal movement of the brush it is raised from the sheet. The brush does not rotate, and the same parts of the brush contact with the sheet during the registering operation.
