Abstract
An edge filter consists of a stack of layers of material formed with uneven surfaces, the pores of which are closed by an impregnating substance, the contacting raised surfaces of the layers being adhered together by a cementitious medium so that the layers are formed into a single unit. The impregnating medium may be a polymerisable phenolic resin which serves also to cement the contacting surfaces together. As a supplementary procedure, when the impregnated layers are pressed together, but before polymerisation, the exterior of the stack may be coated by painting, spraying, or dipping, with a polymerisable cementitious material, the exterior of the stack being polished after the polymerisation. The layers may consist of discs of crepe paper which are secured together with the surface ridges of each layer either substantially parallel or with a slight deviation from parallelism, to those of the adjacent layer.
