609,973. Attachments for tapping. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA PRECISIONSVERKTYG. March 27, 1946, No. 9434. Convention date, March 28, 1945. [Class 83 (iii)] The device comprises driving and driven members with balls 44 arranged between them to permit relative axial movement, torque being transmitted by other means comprising a ball 52 free to roll in semicircular slots 56, 58 and relatively connecting a guide sleeve 20 having a longitudinal slot 48 between its ends with the driven member 34. A ball holder 46 holds the balls 44, provided with races in the members 20, 34, in mutual peripheral and axial displacement and positions the ball 52 with respect to them. A tap holder 36 is carried along in rotation by a bolt 40 connected to the driven member which is suspended from a spring 60 held by a cap 66 threaded to the guide sleeve axially located in a driving sleeve 14 by a ball race 70. Pins 22 form a driving connection between the guide sleeve and a locking ring 18 having a cam surface 16 held in engagement with a corresponding cam surface on the driving sleeve by a spring 26 adjusted by a protective sleeve 24 threaded to the guide sleeve. To absorb the impact of the tap on a work-piece a spring 68 is interposed between the cap 66 and an abutment on the driven member.
