Abstract
607,839. Propelling aircraft. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., OWNER, F. M., and MARCHANT, F. C. I. Feb. 12, 1946, No. 4417. [Class 4] [Also in Group XXVI] A power turbine 12 drives a pair of contrarotating aircrews 19 through a shaft 21 and gearing 22. The turbine 12 is fed with combustion gas by a plurality of generators, each comprising a compressor 13, a plurality of combustion chambers 14 and a turbine 15. The compressor is supplied with air from an intake 18 at the leading edge of the wing positioned so as to use the ram effect due to the airscrews 19. The exhaust gases from the turbine 12 pass to a propulsion nozzle in the trailing edge of the wing. The tractor airscrews 19 may be replaced by a pusher airscrew or both a pusher and a tractor airscrew may be employed.
