Abstract
<PICT:0607162/III/1> Apparatus for the treatment of finely-divided minerals or carbonaceous material with hot gases and/or steam, comprises a stationary treatment chamber 1. Finely-divided solid material to be treated is fed into the chamber at inlet 3. Hot gas and/or steam is introduced tangentially into the chamber through a plurality of inlets 12, 13, 14 and 15, the said inlets being disposed alternately in opposite directions. The gas inlets are preferably separated by ridges 17 which may be of triangular cross section. The turbulence set up in the chamber results in a rapid reaction, the products of which and residual untreated reactants being withdrawn to dust collectors for separation.
