Abstract
606,939. Seats. BRITISH OVERSEAS AIRWAYS CORPORATION, and LEVER, G. G. Jan. 22, 1946, Nos. 2145 and 32525. [Class 52(ii)] In a chair, particularly for airplanes, in which the seat is movable forwardly and the back tilted backwardly for a reclining posture and in which the seat and back are moved in the reverse directions when a more erect posture is desired, the adjustments are provided by the manipulation of a lever or by means of an hydraulic jack or electrical means under the control of a valve or switch. As shown the seat a is arranged between arm rests d which are pivoted at h to front legs e and to rear legs f by means of a spindle i, the back b being pivoted at k and connected to the legs f by links m. The rear legs or one of them is provided with a lever f' forming an extension and manipulation of the lever f' downwardly from the position shown moves the seat a forwardly and, by means of the links m, the back rearwardly in a more tilted position. The lever f may operate in a recess in the arm rest d. In modifications the lever f' is dispensed with and replaced by an hydraulic jack under the control of a manually-operated valve or by electrical means under the control of a switch. The legs e, f are pivoted to a base g but may, instead, be provided with castors &c. When the base g is provided the arms s, p and the link q may be dispensed with.
