[Class 78(i)] A conveyer belt 1 is supported by one or a set of rollers 2, 3 on a transversely extending arm or cradle 4 which is pivoted or hinged at one end to a side support or pedestal 10 near one edge of the belt 1 in such manner that the arm 4 and roller or rollers 2, 3 can be swung out of the transverse supporting position, whether or not the belt is in motion, about an axis 12 slightly tilted from the vertical in a direction such that the outward movement is also a slightly downward movement. The hinge carrying.side support consists of a collar 8 hinged at 9 and adjustably clamped by a screw 11 to a suitable pedestal such as a pit prop 10. Lugs 7 on the collar 8 are so positioned that the hinge pin 12 of the arm 4 is inclined slightly to both the longitudinal and transverse axes of the belt. The axis of the hinge pin 12 makes approximately a right angle with the axis of the outer roller 2 to ensure that it may clear the belt when it is strained by load into a V-shaped section. The support for the outer end of the arm 4 is a pedestal 13 the height of which is adjustable by a member 15 which carries a socket at its top to receive a locating pin in the end of the arm 4. The lower return run 16 of the conveyer belt may be supported by rollers on a similar hinged arm but is preferably supported by rollers on plain bearings secured to a fixed bracket 19 on the collar 8 and a vertically adjustable block 20 on the pedestal 13.
