Abstract

599,569. Venting barrels. WARD, C. W., and VOSS, T. H. Sept. 18, 1945, No. 24138. [Class 21] [Also in Group XXVIII] A device for drawing off liquids from barrels comprises a bung 4 through which is slidable a tube 1 the upper end of which carries a fitting 3 for connection to the suction pipe of a pumping engine and the lower end of which carries a fitting 6 into which the liquid can enter and pass into the tube through a non- return valve. The fitting 3 is provided with additional arms which may be connected to suction pipe lines or receive closure caps when not required for use. The arms of the fitting 3 are provided with internal gauge filters. The fitting 6 comprises an upper chamber containing a ball valve above which is disposed a stop bar to prevent the ball from closing the end of the tube 1, and a perforated lower chamber surrounded by a gauge filter sleeve 10.
