Abstract

598,611. Steering vehicles. HEALEY, D. M. Aug. 29, 1945, No. 22202. [Class 79 (v)] A pair of steerable road wheels supported from trailing links 11 and having arms 12 are connected by rods 17 to a balancing lever 15 pivoted to the chassis at 16 and acted on by a normal steering control 18, the layout being such that the steering arms 12 and rods 17 are normally at right angles to one another, the angle between each rod 17 and the balancing lever 15 is greater than a right angle to ensure true centre point steering, and the rods 17 extend sufficiently in a fore and aft direction to avoid interference between steering movements of the rods and movements of the trailing links 11. The balancing lever 15 is preferably made of two dish-shaded pressings welded together at their edge, with bosses welded in at the pivot points. Specification 598,024, [Group XXXII], is referred to.
