Abstract

597,877. Electric wiring systems. HARTLEY, A. W. M. April 29, 1944, Nos. 8092 and 24669. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A pre-assembled wiring unit for buildings and other structures comprises components such as switches, lamp-holders and plugsockets wired to lengths of conductors connected to terminals within a terminal box 1, Fig. 1, which is adapted to be located within a hole of corresponding dimensions in a ceiling or wall and is provided with a hinged or detachable cover which has edges projecting beyond the edges of the box, the sides of the box being provided with lateral projections or lugs 4 that assist in retaining the box in position when inserted from above the ceiling or behind the wall into the hole, the overlapping cover-plate serving to clamp the box in position when screwed or otherwise secured thereon at the other side of the ceiling or wall. When mounting the box above a ceiling, transverse wood or metal supports may be located between the joists and the lugs 4 secured thereto by screws. Holes are provided in the sides of the box for the entry and exit of leads 9 which may be metal sheathed and bonded by clamping strips within the box. The components or fittings 11 connected to the leads may have lateral lugs and cover-plates for mounting similarly to the box, and the leads are carried above the ceiling or behind an architrave, or the walls may be chased as required.
