Abstract
594,169. Making wheel hubs. PHILLIPS & CO., Ltd., J. A., and LEDGARD, G. June 8, 1945, No. 14501. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Welding.-In making cycle and like hubs comprising end members welded to tubular barrels, the surfaces to be welded are separated by a projection, preferably annular, which collapses under welding temperature and pressure and effects a weld between the faces. The end members a are formed with seatings b for a flange ring c, the end of the seating having an annular projection f for welding to the barrel e, which may have a projection surrounding the projection f or vice-versa. The face d of the member a or of the flange c may be formed with an annular projection g for welding these faces together. The seating may extend beyond the flange or the flange c may overlap the seating b, Fig. 4. The rings c may be welded to the surfaces d before welding the barrel e to the end members.
