Abstract
581,600. Supporting engines &c. DAVEY, PAXMAN, & CO. (COLCHESTER), Ltd., and PAXMAN, E. P. Nov. 24,1939, No. 30742. [Class 122 (iii)] In a supporting framework for internal combustion engines, compressors, and other reciprocating engines, particularly for ship propulsion, wherein a crankshaft is supported by bearing carriages 6 secured by radially' disposed bolts 8 to the lower portions 9 of sling frames 2 which are secured to horizontal girders 10 extending along each side of the engine. parallel to the crankshaft, a horizontal connection is provided at each side of the sling frames which extends from the bearing carriage, through the sling frame, to the exterior of the horizontal girder. In the form shown, the ,horizontal girders 10 are U-shaped and strengthened at intervals by perforated webs 15, and the horizontal connection comprises upper and lower pairs of bolts 16, 17. The latter are provided, respectively, with outer and inner slotted lock-nuts 18, 22, and they are enclosed by housing elements 24 welded in position as at 25. The web 11 of each sling frame 2 extends into a slot 12 in the girder 10, and the latter is welded to the sling frame as at 13, 14.
