[Class 135] A hydraulic governor for controlling the rate of supply of liquid fuel to an engine in response to variations of engine speed, comprises a pump a, Fig. 1, driven by the engine, a spring- loaded piston g responsive to the liquid pressure for actuating the regulating means i of a fuel pump, and a control valve d for venting the liquid adjustable through a manually-operated link n and a lever k to any desired datum position and also movable automatically through the lever k in response to movement of the piston. In Fig. 2, the control valve d is operated manually by the bell-crank s and automatically by the piston g through the bell-crank t. When a predetermined speed is attained, fluid pressure opens the valve q and supplements the force of the spring h. In a modification of this latter valve, the piston operates the control valve through a compound lever, the manual operation altering the position of a fulcrum of the lever, while the spring side of the piston is connected to the intake side of the pump through a check valve. Fig. 4 shows a further modification in which the central valve comprises two concentric cylinders, the outer 10 operated from the piston by a rack 12 and the inner 9 manually by a lever 11.
