587,919. Drinking-appliances for animals. KIDD, F., and KIDD, T. D. Dec. 8, 1944, No. 24409. [Class 5 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXIX] A self-actuated drinking-appliance for animals comprises a soft metal bowl having a thickened rear wall into which an insert of hard metal is cast integrally to accommodate a valve housing. In the form shown the appliance consists of a hemispherical bowl a cast in a non-corrodible aluminium alloy. The bowl is provided with a thickened rear wall a<SP>2</SP> to accommodate an insert b, which is cast integrally with the bowl. The insert is formed of a hard alloy, such as aluminium bronze, which may be readily provided with screw-threaded holes to receive the valve housing c and the water inlet pipe (not shown). The valve (see also Group XXIX) comprises a spring-loaded plunger j which can be pushed inwardly by the pressure of the animal's nose on a lever d. The plunger is provided with a cavity j<SP>1</SP> which ensures the emission of a quiet stream of water into the bowl. By means of a threaded adjustment disc g, the pressure of the valve spring h on the plunger may be varied. A modified form including a ball-valve is described in the Provisional Specification.
