573,924. Combustible gaseous mixtures. STEINSCHLAEGER, M. May 10, 1940, Nos. 8442 and 8443. [Class 55 (ii)] A gas mixture containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and suitable for use in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, is obtained by mixing water gas and coke oven gas in such proportion as to produce a gas suitable for the Fischer-Tropsch process, heating this gas with a catalyst at 160-250‹ C. to produce oils and gases rich in methane. These gases are, in one case, heated with steam and a catalyst to 800-900‹C. to produce a gas which, on admixture with water gas, is suitable for use in the Fischer-Tropsch process. In the other case, the gases rich in methane are heated with steam in the absence of a catalyst at between 1200‹ and 1500‹ C. to produce a gas which is mixed with water gas, and a gas which is obtained by heating water gas and steam with a catalyst at between 400‹ and 500‹ C.' and separating carbon dioxide, to yield a gas mixture suitable for the Fischer - Tropsch process.
