Abstract
Sulphonyl guanidines are prepared by subjecting an aliphatic or an aromatic sulphonyl guanyl urea to a heat treatment in the presence of water and a basic substance. If desired, a water-miscible organic solvent may also be present. The sulphonyl guanyl urea may be prepared in any convenient manner, but the preferred method is by the hydrolysis of a sulphonyl dicyandiamide. A preferred embodiment of the present invention is the treatment of sulphanilyl guanyl urea to form sulphanilyl guanidine. As basic substances there are mentioned ammonia, hydroxylamines, hydrazines, guanidines, aliphatic, hydroaromatic, or aromatic primary or secondary amines or polyamines. A large number of individual compounds are named. In examples: (1) Benzenesulphonyl guanidine is prepared by heating benzenesulphonyl dicyandiamide first with aqueous 50 per cent ethyl ether of ethylene glycol and then with aqueous sodium hydroxide. (2) n-Butylsulphonyl guanyl urea is heated with aqueous sodium hydroxide to give n-butylsulphonyl guanidine. (3) Benzenesulphonyl guanyl urea is heated in aqueous sodium hydroxide to give benzenesulphonyl guanidine. (4) Sulphanilyl guanyl urea is heated with aqueous sodium hydroxide to give sulphanilyl guanidine. (5) Benzene sulphonyl guanyl urea is heated with aqueous n-butylamine to give benzenesulphonyl guanidine. (6) Benzenesulphonyl guanyl urea is heated with aqueous sodium carbonate to give benzenesulphonyl guanidine. The Specification contains a list of a large number of sulphonyl guanyl ureas which may be employed as starting materials for the process of the invention. Specification 566,091 is referred to.
