Abstract
579,045. Vehicle brakes. RENAULT, L. April 16, 1940, No. 6869. Convention date, June 29, 1939. [Class 103 (i)] The piston 2, Fig. 1, of a master-cylinder 3 is operated directly by a rod 16 through the intermediary of a casing 4 containing a liquid placed under pressure by means of pedal 1. The pressure in casing 4 is communicated through a conduit 5 to a cylinder 6, Fig. 2, which produces engagement of clutch discs 7, 8 so that disc 7 is rotated, through the gearing shown, by a shaft 10 connected to the car wheels so that a cam 9 fast with disc 7 is rotated to turn a lever 14, connected to rod 16 and pivoted at 15, to apply an additional force to the brake piston 2. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the conduit 5 is made flexible to allow for the movement of cylinder 4, but in a modification this cylinder is provided with a second piston in order that the cylinder may be fixed. In Fig. 3 is shown a cylinder 20 by means of which cam 9 applies pressure to a further cylinder 23 for acting upon a pivoted rod 24 connected to rod 16.
