Abstract
578,355. Potato &c. peelers. CURRAN & CO., Ltd., E., CURRAN, J., and HICKS, S. Oct. 10, 1944, No. 19458. [Class 28 (ii)] Potatoes &c. are peeled in a container 2, 3 having a rough interior surface and enclosing one or more rough surfaced plates or discs 6 obliquely mounted on a shaft 4 rotated by a handle 5 or by power, for example, an electric motor. The plates 6 may be parallel. A pipe 8 supplies water and drain holes are provided which latter are kept clear of peelings by being swept over by the edges of the discs. A single plate or disc 6 located intermediate the ends of the shaft would have both faces rough and would divide the container into two compartments. With multiple discs the outer faces of the end discs may be smooth. The lid 3 is hinged at 7. Grooves or ridges such as 2a may be formed on the container or radially on the discs. The roughening may be formed by carborundum crystals secured by an adhesive, e.g. shellac.
