Abstract

Hydrocarbon peroxides wherein the peroxy radical is connected to two tertiary carbon atoms, at least one of which is part of an aliphatic group, such as di-isobutane and di-isopentane peroxides, are prepared by slow, non-explosive oxidation of the hydrocarbon in the presence of a hydrogen halide, particularly hydrogen bromide, at a temperature of 100-250 DEG C.
