Abstract

578,008. Frangible closures. ASIATIC PETROLEUM CO., Ltd., LUBBOCK, I., and BECKER, L. S. Nov. 7, 1941, No. 14401. [Class 135] A frangible diaphragm 2 adapted to be ruptured by fluid pressure is made comparatively thick and formed with a channel 6 so as to provide an annular or part-annular thin portion which is burst by the fluid, the width of the thin portion being at least ten times the thickness thereof. The diaphragm is preferably made of soft metal, such as copper, aluminium or lead. The centre part 8 of the diaphragm may be domed or corrugated. When the channel 6 is not completely annular, as shown in Fig. 4, the part of the diaphragm between the ends of the channel forms a hinge when rupturing occurs. A filter edge 5 may be provided to retain the ruptured diaphragm or fragments thereof.
