Abstract
576,729. Roller skates. SHAW, S. P. Oct. 6, 1944, No. 16455/43. [Class 132 (i)] In a roller skate comprising a foot-plate mounted on three wheels, two of which are located on opposite sides near the toe and the third is located centrally at the heel, the pair of wheels at the toe being of large diameter and carried upon outwardly directed stub axles on upturned lugs so that the foot'-plate is supported in underslung fashion, the centrally disposed rear wheel is located entirely beneath the upper surface of the foot-plate. As shown in Fig. 1, the centrally ribbed foot-plate 16 has a flat facing plate 17 at the heel end and a cappiece 18 at the toe end. Clip members 19 can be tightened on to the edges of the sole of the user's footwear by means of a strap 21. The front wheels 23 are arranged on stub axles 24 and the rear wheel 27 is located entirely beneath the plate 16 on an axle 28 carried in bearings 29 so that an adjustable heel stop 30 may be moved back over the wheel if necessary. The front two wheels may be resiliently suspended from the foot-plate as shown in Fig. 3.
