Abstract
576,127. Discharge apparatus. MAYO, B. J. Aug. 8, 1941, No. 10699/42. Divided out of 576,121. [Class 39 (i)] In a short-wave oscillation generator such as described in Specification 576,121, wherein a single resonator 4 is used with a reflector electrode 7, the negative potential applied to this electrode is numerically 1/5th or more of the potential applied to the resonator. If the drift time of the electrons is less than four periods of the generated oscillations, the potential applied to the resonator being not more than 2000 volts, then the potential applied to the electrode 7 need not exceed 1/10th of the resonator potential. By this means when the potential of the resonator is changed, the equipotential surface in front of the electrode 7 at which the electrons are reflected is not moved substantially and efficiency is not materially affected. The electrode 7 has a peripheral flange as set out in Specification 576,126. Ribbon-shaped beams may be used in devices as described in Specification 574,512.
