Abstract
576,094. Heating air. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and CAMERON, L. M. Aug. 12, 1942, No. 11310. [Class 64 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a heat-exchanger for heating air by hot gases, units 18, 19 each having a number of parallel paths with separate inlet and outlet ducts 11, 12 for the air are arranged side by side at an angle to one another in the path of the hot gases. The air flows through the parallel paths of each unit alternatively in opposite directions. The exchanger is shown applied to a gas turbine plant for driving two contra-rotational air screws. Air from an axial compressor 6 passes to a centrifugal compressor 7 and thence to an annular chamber 16, from which it passes through the circularly arranged inlet ducts 11 of the exchanger. The intercalated outlet ducts 12 form the combustion chambers of the turbine. The exhaust gases pass through the exchanger to a nozzle 10.
