Abstract
575,155. Snap-action switches. STILLWELL, W. E. June 15, 1943, No. 9531. Convention date, July 8, 1942. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXXII] A bowed spring or disc 10 is caused tc snap into its opposite position by the simultaneous inwarc movement of two plungers 16, 17. In the form shown the plungers are moved by the simultaneous energization of twc electromagnets 21, 22 and the disc 10 carries contacts 30 which are moved out of or intc engagement with fixed contacts 31. The spring disc 10 is of the kind in which the outer rim portion snaps over before the central portion. Because of this, the effective plunger 16 or 17 does not have to move so far as the plane containing the edge of the disc in order to snap the disc over and the inward position of the other plunger (17 or 16) does not prevent the snapping over. In a modification, Figs. 6-9 (not shown), the centre of the disc is connected to a lever which may operate a track switch in a toy train system and the outer end of each plunger is biased in an outward direction by a bowed disc which has only one position of equilibrium.
