Abstract
574,822. Fusible cut-outs ; two-part couplings. BRITISH MECHANICAL PRODUCTIONS, Ltd., FUKE F. C., and SHOREY, L. W. Oct. 29, 1943, No. 17937. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A fuse comprises a carrier movable in a casing and having a recess into which a cartridge fuse fits, movement of the carrier serving to bring the recess into line with an opening in the casing through which a spent fuse is ejected by springs in the carrier and a new fuse can be inserted, the carrier being then moved back to bring the fuse into an inaccessible position in engagement with contacts in the casing. On one form the carrier a rotates in an oblique enlargement b on a wall socket, the fuse e being inserted through a gap b<3> into a recess a<1>, the edge b<4> of the gap being bevelled so as to press the fuse down against springs f as the carrier a is turned to bring the end caps e<1> of the fuse into engagement with contacts d. Movement of the member a is limited by the engagement in a recess h of a tongue g<1> on a plate g that may also serve to support the member a. Instead a spigot on the member a may turn in a journal in the part b. The springs f hold the fuse against the contacts d which are rigid, and also in the position shown in Fig. 4, eject the fuse. A screw-driver slot a<3> by which the member a is turned using a coin or tool, is inaccessible when a plug c is in the socket. If the movement of the member a is to be utilized as a switch, a ball catch n is provided co-operating with three recesses p to define positions in which (1) the switch is on with the fuse in engagement with the contacts d (2) the switch is off with the fuse still confined and (3) the fuse is accessible through the gap b<3>. A sliding member may be used to carry the fuse, being actuated and its movement limited by a knob projecting through a slot in the casing.
