Abstract

Water insoluble coal briquettes are made by preparing a binder by macerating peat with an aqueous solution of sodium silicate in amount sufficient at least to neutralize the acidity of the peat but not greater than twice that required for neutralization, mixing the binder so formed with coal particles in the proportion of 2 to 3 parts dry weight of binder to 100 parts by weight of coal, moulding the mixture into briquettes and drying the briquettes by heating them to between 120 DEG and 140 DEG C. Specifications 14389/04, 339,985, [both in Class 50], and 417,923 are referred to.
