Abstract
562,816. Angular bending. PEARCE, L. A. Feb. 9, 1943, No. 2142. [Class 83 (iv)] A machine for bending sheet metal and for shrinking or removing creases or pleats formed during bending and comprising more than two counterpart rotatable members with bent or curved surfaces and so arranged and adjustable that the sheet may be passed between them for bending and shrinking purposes, has a set of three rollers with axes in the same plane coacting with a single roller. The machine may comprise barrelshaped rollers, the lower 1 of which is mounted in bearings adjustable by a handle-operated cam on a pillar 5 itself adjustable by a screw. The other rollers consist of a pair of rollers 10, 11 on a front spindle and a roller 12 on a rear spindle mounted in ball or roller bearings in a forked casting 7 which is split so as to allow of a screw adjustment. The axis of the roll 1 is parallel to that of the other rolls and when fullv raised the roll 1 makes contact with all three upper rolls. The sheet to be bent and shrunk is passed between the roll 1 and the rolls 10-12 and the roll 1 raised to press the sheet against the upper rollers. The sheet is then pushed and pulled by hand or moved in a circular or other path to bend it to the required shape and roll out the creases.
